JD just finished the summer season with Phantom Regiment, and they won DCI (Drum Corps International) World finals last night! Or whatever it's called. Just kidding! You can read more about it at the corps' website, http://www.regiment.org/. This year, the show was based on the story of Spartacus (hence the title).
Anyway, the upshot is that JD is The Man. He was a major designer of the show, wrote the brass "book," taught the horn players, and managed the brass staff. Not a job for the faint of heart.
He got home this morning, so we are celebrating his birthday in arrears (it was July 24, for inquiring minds). Sonora has been planning his birthday party in great detail. So today, we went to the store (hustling the kids out of the house so he can take a nap), and Sonora picked out some cupcakes and a balloon for him. What balloon did she pick? A Superman balloon. That girl is no fool.
