School Daze
Sonora had a rough start this week at preschool, so it didn't surprise me to hear her crying after bedtime last night. I went in and asked her what was wrong. She sobbed, "My foot! My foot!" nearly incoherently. I tried putting socks on, I checked her foot, which seemed fine, to no avail. She appeared to really be feeling pain and she had banged her toes on that foot earlier in the evening, so I gave her a dose of Tylenol. Then I laid back down with her in bed, and we had this conversation:
Sonora: It still hurts!
Me: You have to give it a little bit of time for the medicine to work.
...A few minutes later...
Sonora: Mommy, my foot is feeling better!
Me: That's great!
Sonora: It just moved up into my leg now.
Me: Oh, that's too bad.
Sonora: It will just keep moving up through my body. It will just come out through my forehead at school in the morning.
Me: Oh yeah? I hope so.
Sonora: Yeah, it's just my blood pressure.

Dances with Cats
Xavier saw this beautiful cat in the yard this morning. They stared at each other, fascinated, for probably 10 minutes. Here is a transcript:
Xavier: It's a giant cat!
Xavier: Look at that giant cat!
Xavier: May I touch that giant cat?
Xavier: I wan' touch that giant cat!
Xavier: He needs some chockit milk!
Xavier: He needs some juice!
Cat: [stares] Do my bidding, human child.

Preschool Panic
Sonora is all ready to start her new preschool in the morning, just a couple of blocks away at Shepherd Lutheran Preschool. I would have preferred a preschool/daycare that could also take Xavi, especially after touring a few schools. He is so excited about it. He ran and explored at the few places I took them both to look at. And when Sonora would introduce herself, he would also proudly pound his chest and say, "Hi! I'm Vavier!" with the most engaging be-dimpled smile he can muster (which is considerably charming, in my biased opinion). So I am holding my breath
and hoping that a) I picked the right one for her and b) I figure out something satisfactory for him.

Living with Mrs. Malaprop
Sonora's Mother Goose:
Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With cockle shells and Taco Bell...
Wait, how does it go, Mom?
